My music is stored on internal HD which had journaling enabled by default. What I found was that disabling journaling on the HD had the most positive effect. What I feel is that with amarra 1.2 the above has no effect if not detrimental effect. What's missing is save preferences button. Before 1.2 amarra, I had been using ram disks and renicing iTunes, amarra and coreaudio. Finally these settings stick on the 2nd round. KingStyles, the previous 2.4's preferences required you to set preferences, close the pane, and restart, and repeat. An i5 seems to cope well enough unless an i7 is able to load memory faster? So optimally 8GB RAM is about the minimum spec, a 192/24 album takes 2.5GB, so 8GB leaves something comfortable for the OS. So maybe just choose two or three tracks to load, if you listen to an album in sequence, by the time track 3 is ended, the memory is loaded in the background ready for the next? If you switch tracks a lot, this setting is optimal. Loading time for a Redbook album in 8MB RAM MBP is a few seconds, for a 192/24 album, it takes longer.maybe 20s. Loading an album or your choice of tracks into memory is a good idea, it's flexible for those albums that may have first few tracks as gapless and the not the remainder. I like the memory counter in the Amarra Window that indicates how much memory is used. 11% and 5% for a 192/24 album ( America Homecoming). There are some other issues on the website, however the big wants and now provided, so they may not be that important.Īmarra 2.4.1 draws about 8% and iTunes 2% CPU on a Redbook album. It's not ideal.but perhaps more preferable than on the fly DSD/PCM conversion. Still not out of the woods as yet on a few issues, I tried to play/convert dsf and dff to aiff, since I don't have a DSD DAC, so that's dead in the water didn't work at all, need a DSD device.Īs a workaround, Audirvana can create full blown AIFF for iTunes to import and load. I could not believe after reading poster's notes here that it has actually happened, and yes it's true, gapless does work in iTunes cache mode and no need to set gapless play in the iTunes database.ī) The sound quality is still the best from OSX.Ĭ) Gapless works with iTunes (hallelujah)ĭ) No need to bother with Playlist mode any more (for now) What a revelation, Santana's Caravanserai can now be played the way it's meant to be, in GAPLESS. Well, if there is a reason why the day can be rejoiced, Amarra 2.4.1 is it.
